Chevrolet is one of the few companies that still offers its full-size pickup with the option for a diesel engine in addition to a gas system. The entry-level engine is a 2.7-liter gas setup that peaks at 310 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The next option is a 5.3-liter engine that hits 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. You can order a 6.2-liter engine that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. It also is the highest-performance engine for the Silverado 1500, with a zero-to-60-mph time of less than 5.5 seconds. Likewise, Chevy offers a 6.2 tuned for off-road driving.
